Decidify helps people decide where to live in the United States. It is a data-driven tool that matches you to US cities based on your priorities — budget, climate, taxes, lifestyle — and then gives you sourced, dated data across roughly 33 metrics for more than 1,800 US cities, organized into ten categories: cost and budget, taxes, climate and natural-disaster risk, home insurance, political climate, health access, broadband, demographics, and geography.
Two principles shape everything we publish. First, every figure carries its source and the year it refers to — if a number is shown, you can see where it came from and when it was measured. Second, we omit rather than estimate: where a value isn't available for a city, we leave that metric out entirely instead of showing a placeholder or a guess. Because of this, the number of metrics shown varies from city to city — and nothing is invented.
Decidify is an independent product built and operated by Elif Hilal Pek, based in Istanbul, Türkiye. It began as a mobile app for people planning a move to the US and grew into a web tool built around one idea: relocation decisions deserve real, cited data rather than opinion. It is a small, self-funded project — no venture backing, no data resale, no advertising trackers.
Decidify compiles publicly available data from established institutional sources. Each metric on a city page names its own source and reference year. The sources we actually use are:
A few values are derivedfrom those sources rather than published directly, and we label them so. Where a value reflects a Decidify classification (for example, a tax profile or a political lean) or a composite score, the source line says so — e.g. “Decidify classification” or “Decidify composite.” The clearest example is our overall climate-risk composite, which is the average of six FEMA hazard scores (flood, hurricane, wildfire, earthquake, tornado, and heat wave), normalized to a 0–10 scale. Simple arithmetic derivations — such as population density from population and land area — are attributed to the underlying official source. Where our data differs from an official source, the official source governs.
Decidify provides information, not advice. A city report is not legal, tax, financial, real-estate, insurance, medical, or immigration advice, and shouldn't replace professional guidance.
